"Smart, witty, tight...A darn good play!"* *Harry Currie, Arts Reviewer, The Record, 2003 Barn Talk by Kathleen Cleland Moyer is a family "comedy with poignant moments" . It was Backyard Theatre's first comedy hit and was performed in 2003 at the Cober Bauman farm in Shakespeare. With the support of the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund, Barn Talk--The Stage Play was transformed into a contemporary (2022) radio play. Barn Talk - The Radio Play had a new format, new characters, lively "Foley" sound effects, live music, new twists and turns—and a surprise ending. It was performed at the 200 seat theatre at the Kitchener Public Library in early Oct 2022 to capacity audiences. Below are post-show comments sent by audience members who attended Barn Talk -- the Radio Play.:
Audience Reviews of Barn Talk - The Radio Play
"We had forgotten so much of the original Barn talk that it seemed almost like a completely new play. It seemed deeper to me as you touched on so many poignant issues and gave me so much to think about---"
“It was a joy to be part of it today…thank you for an uplifting afternoon”
“What a great show! It was fabulous! It just had a bit of everything. So much fun and so heartfelt at the same time.
“We loved the play... We really enjoyed the nuances of the story and the exploration of grief.…And the radio play format was so intriguing. It kind of felt like being on the inside of a production as we could see how some of the sound effects were created. I hope you feel very proud of what you accomplished, both the performance itself and how you bring together community. We're grateful to be a part of this community.”
“Our family is still talking about it! What a unique experience. We loved it!!!
NEW ACTOR FEEDBACK “...thank you for including me in Barn Talk! ...I so appreciate the collaborative nature of how you work -- it felt inclusive and warm.
